GET.SET.GO!

As teachers, we often complain that students do not pay attention in the class or they are not ready to learn. They throw tantrums, they disobey, the feel sleepy, they get agitated, they don’t write in class, they don’t do their homework assignments etc. However, my experience is that it’s not always student’s fault. Many times, it is teachers’ fault too sometimes. Teachers aren’t prepared with their lessons so what they serve in the class in half baked. I’ m very sure none of us will lap up anything half – baked. Then why blame students? The other times, teachers prepare their lectures well. They make thorough notes, consult different books, make worksheets too. But sometimes we have students in classroom who learn better with audio – visual aids or practical’s. So, our lectures fall on deaf ears. Is it the kids’ fault? No. As teachers it is our responsibility to make use of all the aids available so that a variety of learners will grasp the concept. This variety will also make

Let's Do It

Hello everyone! I hope all of you are having a good time at school, excited about the new developments at school, the new changes we are trying to bring in and the events that are in the pipeline. It is your participation, your inputs and your proactiveness that would make everything a roaring success. There is just one more thing that I would like to ask for- please remain motivated. Yes, that’s the catch. To remain motivated is the biggest challenge these days. So many times, I have seen smiling faces, bubbling with energy, raring to go at the time of interview becoming dull after a week in the class. I want all my educators to have a genuine smile on their faces. I agree that times are tough. We do not have the same atmosphere in the class which was there when we were students. In our time, teachers were given utmost respect and the child was taken to task if there was any complain from the school. If any note regarding our disobedience or insincerity reached our parents, t

Transforming Personality

The one and only way to work is to enjoy. Very few find enjoyment in their work and take it as an obligation. For them it is not work, it is a burden. It is truly said,” If you enjoy what you do, you never work a single day in your life”. I was fortunate enough to have discovered the field which makes me feel happy. Oxford Public School has provided me a platform that has not only enhanced but transformed my personality and I have thoroughly enjoyed that transformation. Here, I am not only an educator but a learner. I have strongly come to believe that one should never stop learning. Working here has really enriched my skills and has boosted up my confidence. I believe I have become a smarter and more confident person. From the curriculum to the extra- curricular activities, not only the students but the educators too, get their personality revamped as each day brings new learning experiences. These experiences are largely responsible for shaping up the way I am today. Since

Esperienze

It is rightly said "To teach is to learn twice over". I've been teaching for 25 years and there has never been a day I haven't learnt something new. Teaching is not just a job for me, it is what defines me. It gives me a purpose. We often complain about how terrorism can't be fought or how some educated people throw garbage or how kids are becoming lazy in a tech world and the list goes on. It is always easier said than done. Teaching gives me the power to shape our youth into becoming a good person as in the end that is what matters the most. It's been a year I have been working in this school, the experience and exposure I got here is exceptional.   Experience always changes with the schools we teach, but the one I am having here is having a huge impact on my confidence. Colleagues here are positive competitors and good personal friends. This environment is best suited to grow as a person and individual. Freedom I get here in the process of teaching hel

Awaken the learner

Please check the link before you read the write-up. https://youtu.be/vsApwK9khRo This beautiful short film by Nitin Das made me pen down skills that can be tried in class to change and motivate our students. The student-teacher relationship has changed a lot over the time. I'm certain all teachers will agree that the picture was drastically different when we were on the other side of the fence. In the present age, the best lessons, books and materials in the wold won't get students excited about learning if they are not motivated. Even the most educated teacher with best of intentions, sometimes lack motivational skills. So whether you are a new teacher or an experienced one, let us try using some techniques to motivate our beloved students so that they can achieve their true potential. First and foremost, we need to give students a sense of control. Let them choose the type of assignment they do. Let them decide which problem will they work on. Following instruc

Teaching beyond the books

Education system teaches students to work more on material and less on people. Weapons are not only on the border of China and India but in every class and every house. We tell students to be the best in the whole class and that too to every child. How is it possible? We have books which teach us opposite of night is day, opposite of man is woman, opposite of sun is moon and opposite of servant is master. But if we will see these words in context of practical world they are complimentary. I think they compete each other. Just to teach a concept of grammar we teach students to make comparison and these words are locked in human mind for whole life. One such comparison I saw few days back as the headlines of a newspaper. “Girls are leading the race and scoring the highest marks in Class XII”. Was there any gender based competition going on? How does it matter? Teach students to identify people on the base of their talent not on gender. I saw a picture in one of the books o

Secrets of a Teacher's Ward

It has been a year I passed my 12th grade and began a new journey of my life, but the memories of Oxford Public School have not yet faded. It has been a long journey with some ups and downs, a lot many things a child experiences in his school days - bunking a class, roaming around the corridors, standing outside Principal’s office, parents being called for annual report and what not. I am pretty sure most you might have experienced all of this, but to everyone’s surprise all of this never happened with me because my mother teaches in OPS. I find this blog the right platform where I can explain how it is to be a teacher’s ward. It is definitely fun. You are neither ghar ka na ghat ka :D . Classmates see you as a potential tale-teller and teachers expect you to be a perfect student!  I always studied in the school where my mother taught and for a year she was my class teacher too. So in my 15 years of schooling, I never missed her. We literally spent 24 hours together under th

The one who is bold, strong and carefree. I am standing on a seashore, trying to see an end. But then I realize it’s never gonna end ….. My family, My Oxford

The title is indeed apt for my write up. Oxford is not just an elite school, its’ a royal family. I am extremely happy to be able to express my feelings towards my family through this blog post. The year 2007 was one of the best years of my life. It was 15 th of March when I joined Oxford Public School. First day can be frightening and I was nervous too. But the environment was so encouraging, all the educators were so dedicated towards their students. Everyone helped a new teacher like me, even the students – I was on cloud nine! Everything was so good! Continuing my journey in the school I made great friends, learned many new concepts of teaching and became part of this huge family. More importantly, Oxford became an integral part of my life. At Oxford, the students don’t just learn, they grow – mentally as well as emotionally. The senior administration including Principal Ma’am, Vice Principal Ma’am and Sudesh Ma’am have made this possible. They make sure that the educat

Enriching Experience

I read somewhere that if you find a job you love, you'll never work a day. I find myself fortunate enough to have found such a job. I am an art and craft teacher. It is my passion to create things out of seemingly nowhere. I was happy to join this school and teach the kids what I knew. But that's not what this job turned out to be. I expected to teach, little did I expect that I'd be learning too. And the least did I expect to enjoy it too. I often wonder what my life would have been like, had I not been blessed to have joined this institution. The memory of the first task that was given to me is still as fresh as yesterday. I thought I had executed it well but the feedback I received proved otherwise. Honestly, I thank that great teacher for her constructive criticism. It was a boon that helped me strive for the creativity that was expected from me. Over the years, I have seen myself change. I have grown as an individual. All the recognition and appreciation that h

To Change: Let's Learn

Teaching is Learning, Learning is Growth, Growth is Knowledge, Knowledge is Information, Information is Fact, Fact is Act, And Act is what we do in our day to day life i.e. TEACHING YES, Teaching is the noblest profession. Where we undergo learning with our day to day acts, Where we learn new facts. Where we transform little caterpillars to beautiful butterflies. Where we mould a clay into piece of art. Where we change negativity to positivity. Where we counsel them to control their activity. Where we teach them to be polite. Where we guide them to be right. Where we adapt new styles. And remove old piles. Where we accept new thoughts. And open the worn out knots. Where we extend our hands. To make them walk on land. Yes, it is WE THE TEACHERS Who can build or destroy the future of the students. Then why not each of us just try to learn and adopt the new techniques and get rid of the old ones to help out our st

Discipline- The Master Key

Discipline is important for all of us to lead a successful and happy life. The term discipline refers to any training intended to develop moral character or produce a particular pattern of behavior accepted by institutions and society. It is the act of living life following some rules and regulations. Discipline is everything which we do in the right way at the right time. It leads us to the right path. It is one of the most valued assets in each and every walk of life. One has to be disciplined whether we are in school, home, office, factory, playground, battlefield or any other place. Being disciplined not only gives us success and happiness, it also fills our mind with a sense of peace and relaxation as we no longer need to worry about the last minute preparations, overlooked details or missing something important.  The catch is, it is not very easy to have discipline in our lives. It requires tremendous self control, patience and perseverance. It requires us to make the

Love them, Nurture them

Children are the most beautiful creation of God. We, teachers, are so fortunate to meet so many kids every day and shape their lives by loving, caring and guiding them. Children these days are under various types of stress and pressure and most of the time it has nothing to do with academics. But being teachers our entire focus, most of the times, is on how much the child is able to score. When their scores go down, they do not pay attention in the class, become non responsive, the ultimate weapon we have is to shout and scream. Before shouting or screaming on a child, we should try to find the problems with which they are dealing. Just because their problems are not as big as ours doesn't mean we have the right to ignore them. We should stop making children victim of our anger. Students in a class are like flowers in the garden. They may dry even with our little negligence and ignorance. We have to remember that no one is perfect. We should not expect our students to ha

We Can

A Very Happy Birthday (belated) to Oxford Public School! I have been thinking of writing a post for the blog since the day our school started it. So many times, I penned down my thoughts but never found them good enough to be posted. Today, while interacting with my class, a very important point came up which set me thinking. Students told me, "Ma'am, we understand when a teacher tells us that a certain topic is important. But sometimes the explanation becomes so boring that we don't pay attention." At that time, I just told them that it is their mistake that everything that is important and needs explaining becomes boring for them. In retrospection, I realized that somewhere, sometimes, the fault lies in the methodology we teachers adopt. I strongly believe that a teacher is as good as his/her student. Yes, it is difficult to achieve a 100% success rate in the class. There will always be students who'd pay attention no matter what and how you teach. Sim

Learning for life

Life is all about gaining knowledge. I am sure that everyone out there agrees that education is important for us to gain knowledge. But I believe that learning from our own experiences is also equally important. It makes us wise. I have done my bachelor's in computer applications and I had always dreamt of being a part of the corporate world. But God had planned something different for me and so I landed in Oxford Public School for my first job. Since it was not something I had ever wanted, I was not very enthusiastic about my work in the initial days. It took me sometime to realize that my job was not monotonous, it had its own challenges and I could learn a lot from it. This realisation and the love and support of Oxford family made me comfortable and soon I was loving my work. The 3 years that I have worked here have just flown away. I have gained experience, knowledge, wisdom and have created so many wonderful memories. Handing phone calls, managing visitors, coordin

My Students, My Inspiration

Everybody needs a source of motivation in their lives and for me, it's you- my crazy naughty kids. I don't have a perfect life but I have a wonderful life because all of you fill colors in it.  Every day you teach me something new. It is you who taught me to have patience by sitting in the class for hours and listening to every single teacher. It is you who taught me to forget everything even after somebody scolds you. It is you who taught me to enjoy the life to the fullest. It is you who taught me to smile even after crying, to cope up with the stress by being calm even during exams. I am still a learner. You are my boss and I am working for you. I am an ordinary human but it's you who make me feel like a champion when I complete my task and teach you any lesson. Although like every other human being, sometimes I feel upset but as soon as I enter the classroom and see your smiling faces, I forget all my worries. Sometimes while dealing with you, I feel like

Thank you Oxford

Hello everyone! Thank you, school, for providing such a great platform where we can express our feelings. I always wanted to thank my school and express my gratitude towards it and when there is such an amazing opportunity, how can I miss it? OXFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL ---Well, I feel honored and proud to write about our school and get an opportunity to express my gratitude towards my Oxford family. When I write something about oxford simply means I am writing about my life. And I must say  MY LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL  because I am a part of Oxford family.  While writing this my emotions are on a roller coaster ride. I am excited to express whatever was in my heart for long. At the same time, I am sad too because this beautiful journey of learning would soon come to an end.  Classroom chats and banters, friendly teachers, Principal ma'am's science classes, Shallu ma’am reading out paragraphs from history textbooks, Neelam ma'am’s geography lessons, Geeta ma'am&#
